Rev. Adam M. Kaloostian
began his service as our senior pastor in August of 2004.
At that time
our church council labeled his position "Minister of
the Word and Sacraments" in order to reflect
his primary pastoral responsibilties. In 2001, Pastor Adam
was called here as our associate
minister, focusing on outreach and discipleship.
He received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Biola
University in 1997 and a Master of Divinity
(M.Div.) in 2000 from Westminster
Theological Seminary in Escondido, California. He and
his wife
Lena, both of Armenian descent and born in southern California,
married in July of 2000.
Pastor Adam did not grow up “Reformed,” but near the beginning
of his college years he was
introduced
to
the
“five
points
of
Calvinism.”
That
began
a
five-year
faith
journey,
at
the
end
of
which
he
sought to join a confessionally Reformed or Presbyterian
church. He became convinced that the
Three Forms of Unity (the URC’s confessional standards)
were both biblically accurate and a solid
basis for churches to unite together. The Escondido
URC received him as a member of their congregation
in 2000, and he stayed there until he was declared a candidate
for ministry and called to the
Ontario URC.
As part of his work at the Ontario URC, Pastor Adam has
helped to plant an emerging URC
congregation
in
the
High
Desert.
